Kiku-Zakura @ Tropicana City Mall

Hello Scientists, Guinea Pig A here! Today i'm reviewing a Japanese restaurant called Kiku-Zakura. It's been there for awhile now but we've never really gotten to it. XD
Here's the outside:
You have to use an escalator to get here.

The inside's pretty nice too! it has a nice atmosphere with a water feature out at the front. They did not really greet us but they did say "come in!".

Part of the menu-Sushi section

Here's the appetizer. It's pretty small and has not much impact as a first impression. The mayonnaise overpowers the actual omelet, which consists of egg, prawn, flour, crab roll, carrot and spinach. It was slightly cold but not cold enough o.o

The Chawanmushi's texture and flavour was normal. The naruto and some parts of it had a slight smell though. The prawn was not fresh and it wasn't de-veined, which meant it still had that black stuff in it.

The first dish to arrive was an Oyakudon. it was not bad but the egg was slightly overcooked as it was supposed to be half raw. It was slightly salty but good overall. The ingredients weren't proportionate with the rice though. Rating: 3/5

Next was the Kiku Zakura bento set. The beef and the Tempura were above average but the presentation did not match the price. Rating: 2.5/5

Next was the Soba. It was average. The noodles itself wasn't cold nor spongy enough.
Rating: 2/5

Being the beef lover i am, i chose the tenderloin beef set. It was good and the beef had a slight buttery aroma. The beef was also tender enough. On the menu they had given you a choice of New Zealand beef(RM42) or Australian beef(RM 60). I chose the New Zealand beef. the sauce was savory and salty. The rice was porprtionate with the beef, but the beef was cut slightly too small. The radish salad was crisp with no odor, but the sweet mayonnaise did not really match with it. The pickels were nothing special, the vegetables were average and overall it is not suitable for people who dislike salty foods. They only served two slices of watermelon where other Japanese restaurants would usually serve three different kinds of fruits in their sets. Rating: 3/5

The other main reason we decided to come here was because the Japanese restaurant we would usually go to, Sushi Tei, was filled and many people were lining up to be served. I personally reccomend to try their ramen there. We will review this place next time!

That's it for now. Guinea Pig A, signing out!
